I desired then—green spiked hair
& the tough exterior, dangerous
to touch: a studded leather jacket
zipped tight. But the fruit
inside—golden light
wildly unexpected until eaten,
doled out in pieces & in rings,
the juice sticky on my chin
so sweet & fresh, so acidic.
