SENTENCES (III)

There is a flaring penumbra that illuminates

the edges of the day I handed you some leaves

& you were willing to bleed in order to incorporate them

into your body while we stood together in cold

we fought off by pushing our two bodies

together though those two bodies remained

two bodies all the rest of that day, & that night,

& are two separate bodies still, though the leaves

running through our veins are the same leaves

collected that season we bled for each other.
