The Plane Food as Enlightenment

E-mail Print PDF

On the plane you don't rent the headphones
so while you read your book

occasionally up from the plane's low drone
a laughter arises around you

a hearty American laughter
scary and sudden

as the recordings in a haunted house
and the gods that rise out of that laughter

tell of their days at boarding school
of a sad day at the library

say freedom is raised like a puma
in some girl's garage and that your life

my life my life
endless endless rain noise

these gods with hair of girandoles
floating over the tray tables
